My friend and I will be playing this soon but I could use some suggestions for lists. I have mostly random tactical space marines and a Battle for Vedros set, so my models are pretty much: - 1 Space Marine Captain
- 6 Tactical Space Marines
- 1 Space Marine Terminator
- 1 Space Marine Dreadnought
- 1 Ork Warboss
- 5 Ork Nobz (are they Boss in GF?)
- 12 Ork Boyz
- 1 Ork Deffkopta
I really don't mind proxying units for the sake of playing. But it seems like if I went with vanilla units without upgrades, the Battle Brothers look like they might have the advantage due to their Def 2+. They seem really tough to kill. So I'm thinking Orkz may need more AP based weapons or just a lot of melee attack dice. But I guess it balances out for the fact Battle Brothers will be greatly outnumbered and it will be harder to get all the objectives. I originally thought 150 points but it seems so... limited. 200 might be more reasonable. Battle Brothers: (Vanilla) - 1 Captain 70pts
- 3 Battle Brothers 30pts x 3 = 90pts
- 1 Support Brother 40pts
Total: 200 points How would flamer work? It does A6, but does the defender get to choose where the attacks go to, like if there's a group of 3 in close proximity he could say it all goes to one model?) Orc Maurader: - 1 Warlord 55pts + Energy Sword 10pts = 65pts
- 6 Orc 15pts x 6 = 90pts + 6 CCW(A3) 5pts x 5 = 25 pts = 115pts
- 1 Specialist Orc = 20pts
Option 2: I drop all the Melee upgrades, and give the Warlord Heavy Armor for +5pts, and add 2 more Orc for 30pts.
Total: 200pts

I think the lists are fine, hopefully the Orcs are able to make up for the Def 2+ by just rolling buckets of dice. The Flamethrower works like this: "All non-melee weapons may target a single unit or split attacks as evenly as possible among all enemy units within 3” of a single model (defender chooses how)."So you either put all 6 dice on a single unit, or you split them evenly among nearby units but the defender picks how they are split. For example if there are 4 Orcs all within 3" of each other and one is targeted by a Flamethrower, then the defender places 1 die on each Orc, and then picks which other 2 Orc get a second die assigned. Hope that makes sense!

Yeah that was on of my fears for the orcs even though they outnumber the battle brothers. Thanks for the clarification for the flamethrower. That's pretty cool how simple it without needing the use of a flame template. After reading through the rules again and spending a few good hours poking my fingers putting together most of the models (and breaking one) from the starter set I think I'm ready

In my experience, the best upgrate for basic Orcs is the Carabine: +6" range and +1 die for a mere 5 points. This said, Space Mar...ehm, Battle Brothers are a tough nut to crack. Orc player also needs to watch out for the Brother armed with Rocket Launcher: he can easily kill one orc per turn, and if its player plays smart, it wouldn't be easy to reach him quick. Railgun seems a nice option for 30pts (Orc Specialist 20pts + weapon upgrade 10pts), but he needs to be sure to shoot first (and hope the BB will fail its def roll) cause he will be dead as soon as the Rocket Launcher turns in its direction. Another option to deal with the Rocket Launcher is the Jetpack Orc, but as rules are now it will be unable to drop and reach the Brother in the same turn.

I decided to make the list more simple. Battle Brothers = 1 Captain and 4 Battle Brothers. Orcs = 1 Warlord and 9 Orcs. It'll give us an idea on what to build for the next game. I didn't have terrain so I bought this Infinity Scenery Pack for $10.

I wanted to post a few thoughts now that I finally got to play it. The rules are really streamlined and easy. Even though we were both new to the game and hobby, it took us about 40minutes to play. With that said... my demo armies were not ideal. The Battle Brothers shrugged off everything the Orcs threw at them, and I felt like I got most of the kills from counter attacking in melee. Shooting wise, I kept rolling ones for the Battle Brothers. For 3 rounds the Orcs had the advantage for 3-1 objectives seized but I managed to win towards the end with a big push in 4th round.
