We particularly enjoy the spirit and rules of Grimdark Future.
The more we play, the more units we introduce: now we are fielding tanks, walkers, even Stompa...
So, my bright son devised a tactic based on the rules to nullify the threat of a tank: engage them on close assault asap. He claims that the tank cannot shoot.
He has a point. But I asked him how realistic is a Stompa to be blocked by a single Battle brother ?
So, house rules applying to soldiers/hero charging vehicles:
- flyers cannot be charged
- charging a vehicle which moved at max speed will cause the charging unit/hero a number of possible hits.
Hits: half (rounded up or down) of the vehicle Impact value.
Charging unit uses normal Def. , then proceed with assault rules.
- charging a vehicle at low speed: apply normal rules
- a vehicle is blocked in close assault (i.e. it can NOT shoot from standing position, or move forward) if charging unit has at least 33% of the vehicle toughness in figurines number, or toughness value.
To block a walker, you need at least 2 figurines, to block a transport/tank, at least 4 units etc...
But a monster can block a tank.
A TAO commander can try...
- for a vehicle to "unblock or disengage", it can only back away from the assaulting unit at half the distance of normal movement.
Then, he can fire its weapons, but cannot charge back
.
This manoeuvre has no impact on the assaulting unit/hero.
PS: you can always charge a super heavy tank, even with one fig. The tank will simply not consider the assault a sufficient threat to change its plans, and can keep moving & shooting at the targets according to normal rules.
I will also apply this house rule to Soul Snatcher monster units, Demons should also benefit from this approach.
What is your view/practice around vehicles and melees ?
Son said that this is sci-fi battle, and does not need to be realistic... he is just terririfed of my stompa
