Within the next week or so I'll be posting battle reports to the forum for GF and GFF. Not videos but just pictures and a synopsis. And I wanted some feedback before I set up my rubrik. How would y'all like me to format it. I was thinking just taking a picture of the board each round, plus a few pictures of "clutch moments" and give a run down of the round.
But I'll take some input if y'all have any ideas for ways I could format the posts or ways to spruce things up. It'll be a WIP but I hope to have the first report up within 2 weeks. Until then keep it frosty.

I like a combination of overviews and close-ups as you have described. I do that, but don't know that I have been successful.
Close-ups could be minis or particularly crucial die rolls.

Personally the types of written battle reports I enjoy the most are those that focus on either giving a general overview of the battle in a narrative way but without too much detail or those that describe the moment to moment action but don't get too narrative. Usually when you try to both be very narrative and provide details of each action the battle reports get bloated. Anyway I think that if you are going to have pictures then you should make them look nice. Good light, good focus, frame the models well, etc. so that people can tell what is going on. If you are doing a narrative overview I would only put action shot pictures that show some cool scenes (almost diorama style), whilst if you are going for a play-by-play then I would try to have just a few wide shots that are very clear (and maybe add some graphics too). Here is an example of a play-by-play battle report that I made for a game played over roll20: onepagerules.proboards.com/thread/768/battle-sisters-machine-1000pts-reportI tried to keep it as clear as possible with just one picture that was taken at the end of deployment and of each round, and by adding unit tags and arrows that show who caused damage and how much, where units moved, where units missed their shots and where magic was cast. Looking at it again now 2 years later I think it would also have been good to mark which units were Pinned because it's not very clear. Please note that it took a LONG time to make this battle report and I would only recommend doing it if you have a LOT of patience and are very organized. Basically I was taking notes the entire game writing down a few words for each action so that I could summarize it in the end, which might be tedious for you. At the end of the day I think it was well worth it (and probably would look even cooler with real models), but yeah, it's very time consuming.
