Allright, this is an idea I had at work (because my work is so horrifically dull that my mind basically spend the full shift churning on its own trying to think about everything but the soul-killing job!): using the Lego CCBS system to create some Titan Lords. Now obviously, a Titan Lord (well, let's be frank and call them Knights and Titans) isn't cheap, both in terms of point cost and miniature. Each of them is a pretty damn big investment and I'm not saying my proposed method will be cheaper than just buying the GW deal (but I suspect it could still be due to GW horrible prices) but I do think it will have some interesting advantages. Now, on to the Lego CCBS system: it is an expansion/sucessor to their old 'Tecnic' model, which if you were a kid in the late '90 and early 2000 included lines such as Throwbots and, of course, the amazing and much-beloved Bionicle.
The key to the CCBS system is that, being made of Lego (technically!), its made for breaking apart and rebuilding all the while making big (compared to a 28mm mini) robotic characters. Not only that, but CCBS is built using an internal 'skeleton' to the figure, where armor parts and other pieces are added on top of said skeleton. For one thing, all one would need to switch their Titan Lord's weapon is another arm and pop off the ball joint to switch loadout before a game. Not only that, but because most skeleton pieces are grey and black, the central skeleton of the Titan Lord would be reusable. All you'd need to get a completely different look is to change its colored plates. On top of that, there's a good variety of heads which are easily swappable. Likewise, their armor parts could be repainted and converted with appropriate faction decorations and still be swapped out as long as the connector remain.
Assuming one is okay with some homebrew (and why wouldn't you be?), a Titan Lord's skeleton could be used for a variety of faction-specific Titans, either keeping the stat block or by homebrewing something a bit more faction-appropriate. Here's a few bits and pieces that could spice up a Titan Lord of the appropriate faction:
One thing to keep in mind is that different masks require a different head. That said, these are lego so they can be attached to the CCBS pieces skeleton. Of course, there are so many pieces out there that with some creative you could even go and make some alien bio-titan or a space elf walker. Or, maybe, an ugly misshapen lopsided orc war machine and still retain the key inner skeleton (just with different proportions).
