I was looking over the goblin list to build a 150 army to go with some goblin figures I had to try them out.
As I was reading I came across the Nasty Assassin & surprise. For 25 points, you have a unit that appears to be able to kill just about every other unit even really expensive ones. (I don't see anything better then 3+ def with regen which is one of the few things that look likely to not get at least stunned from it)
I played around with unit placement to see if I could come up with a unit layout that could force it at least 3 in away from a critical unit, however even a hexagonal formation of 6 units around a key figure can't force a spawn 3" away from the critical unit (assuming that the 1" away is a minimum, not a max.. if max, then this oviously would take a large number of units to pull off).
8 units looks like they could 'shield' from this attack, which puts 7 in the 'needs math to be sure' area.
I am supprized that this unit is so cheap as it is basically a 1 shot attack that is better then a full table size sniper with indirect with 3 shots with deadly 3.
I could use help understanding this unit. outside of only bringing really cheap units, I don't see any counter to it and 25 points to take out a 40+ point hero/tough unit seems like a reasonable trade.

IMHO it's a left over from the normal AoF rules. In the normal rule set the assassins are a unit of 3 dudes so suprise! makes 3 hits. For AoF:S it should be suprise! with 1 hit (deadly3). This makes this lonely assassin less op

Hmmm you're right, I'm going to have to revisit this rule and its cost.
