Greetings! I have been a fan of OPR for a VERY long time, and have loved just about everything released. Thank you, Gaetano, for everything you've done to give back to the gaming community. I'm making my first post after all this time and it's probably something I'm totally missing. I admit, at times, I can miss something that I should clearly understand. Anyone who can help with this, I'd absolutely appreciate it.
This is what's explained for Damage in War Fleets:
"Damage: Scouts are killed if they take any damage, whilst other ships must assign it to already damaged components. If they take 2 damage they’re disabled, and ships with no active components are destroyed."
What confuses me, is "must assign it to already damaged components"; what if none of the components are damaged? Are they assigned to undamaged components? "If they take 2 damage, they're disabled"; they as in the ship? So, damage points are given directly to the ship and not to components? Lastly, what if a ship I create is given no active components; are they damaged as soon as they take 1 damage?
Apologies again, I might be missing something so obvious, but I just wanna make sure I get it right. Thanks in advance!

As I understand it (and have been playing it):
Ship components are essentially ship "hit points". Each ship MUST be given its full complement of components (0/1/3/6).
With the exception of Scouts that are destroyed whenever suffering any damage (i.e. having just one "hit point"), each class will basically have (2/6/12) "hit points" each as each component can suffer two damage before being disabled.
Damage taken must be assigned to a component, and continue to be assigned to damaged components (so no spreading damage around). This neatly simulates ships deteriorating as they take more damage.

Thanks for the help. With this information, what if I give a ship no "active" components and give them nothing but passive components. Is the ship destroyed immediately upon taking damage? I assume passive components can't be given damage, so is this the case?
Thanks again, for the help. I know this should be easier for me to get, but I just wanna be sure I get it right.

As I read and play it, Passive Components can absolutely take damage. the Active/Passive divide is all down to whether or not you need to actually "use" an ability or if your ship benefits from it without you actually doing anything. Take Armoured Plating, for example. It's passive and its ability is to be treated as a component with 4 hits instead of 2. It serves as additional hitpoints, you don't have to do anything, but it is very much in effect. Whichever component you choose to take damage, when its damage is full, (normally 2 hits) you no longer get that passive ability if it is passive, or get to take that special active action if it is an active one. If you decide to allocate hits to your boarding pods, for a second example, after 2 hits the component is destroyed and you are no longer able to use the Boarding Pods's ability of boarding another ship. If you took the hits on your cannon, then you wouldn't be able to use the cannon, but could still board enemy ships. (all in addition to standard firing, and maneuvering of course)
I hope that helps!

Passive Components can take damage. I have been playing as how joefh has done as well - and running some "electronic warfare / hacker" vessels that debilitate enemy ships. These are loaded with nothing but Passive Components, and are a lot of fun!

Thanks again, so much! I just figured that because of the text used, "and ships with no active components are destroyed", it meant that active components were the only ones that could be assigned damage. I did a few builds and rocked a few with nothing but passive components. I'll be playing this weekend with the wife and hope to get a battle report filmed. I'm "neuicon ov cpop" on YouTube. I've wanted to showcase OPR on my channel for some time and with a batch of ships that have joined my collection, I hope to do just that.
Thanks again, guys, for clearing things up!
