So... This guy on youtube keeps pushing something called medium chipboard. Apparently it is everything a tabletop crafter could ever dream of. Easy to work with, glues with PVA - you know.
So I finally caved in, found a webshop in my country, and ordered two packs.
It is a fine building material. I have always used the coated architectural stuff, and corrogated cardboard, but this is good too.
Problem is, that it smells like... crazy catlady's house. Really bad. In fact I had to move the box of sheets from the man cave to my garage. Your wives will all assure you that whatever smells too bad for the man cave, is really really bad.
I have nice grimdark terrain (thanks Wyloch) and spend a fair amount of time making enough for a couple of interesting tables. But even after rattlecan priming it, I have to overcome talking it out of the boxes where I keep it.
My question is simply whether this is normal, or whether I happened to buy from crazy cat lady's webshop.

Which is too bad. The modular adeptus mechanicus terrain is really a worthwhile addition to the table. Thank you ever so much Wyloch!
I just did two changes to the design: Making more realistic truss girders in the corners of the towers by cutting out way too many small triangles (don't do that for a larger project), and using beer cans rather than soup cans for the towers. Because, you know, soup is when they slaughter a poor animal, boil it for too long, and serve us just the water. While beer is a masterpiece of pure and natural ingredients and processes. Got to stay healthy.

Sure, but they are out on loan right now. They look much like Wyloch's originals, though, with only small variations.
Meanwhile I can show one piece of recently finished terrain, which Wyloch has not made yet (but should). It has the general paint scheme of my urban terrain.
This dice tower mostly solves the problems of questionable dice rolls, and of dice hitting nicely painted models. Dice are poured through the Pringles can chimney, rolls over two 45 degree plates inside the factory, and out onto the green pool of slush. It is impassable terrain, so miniatures don't interfere with the rolls. During painting it dawned on me that I should add a basket or platform for the dice that we use to keep track of points and rounds.
The miniatures are there for scale. It is ACW infantry which I am converting for my Human Defence Force.
Next project is only on the drawing board. But to play Fantasy, or just GDF out in the countryside, the plan was to make a dice tower where you drop the dice into a vulcano, and they pop out into a lake, or possibly a lavapool. The opening was planned to be a human skull, carved into the sides of the vulcano. The challenge is to keep the footprint down whithout making the sides of the vulcano too steep - and the fact that the skull that I bought for the project has been transferred to other duties:

It's just that i figured i might try to do Sector Mechanicus the same way you did, with a beer can as a base so i wanted to see what it would look like. Nice dice tower though  |
