My 10 year old and I played our first game last night and I wanted to talk about how awesome this rule set is! We have played a couple of games of the OTHER game like this and it was just too much. I spent more time helping him figure out his units than actually playing.
With Firefight I stopped helping him after the first turn...by turn three it was clear he was going to beat me. This is such a nice change of pace.
I added a couple of terrain house rules borrowed from the other game; terrain was obscuring if you were behind it even if there was technically LOS.
A couple of highlights from our Havoc Brothers vs Plague Brothers showdown. - My biggest mistake came when I charged a Bezerker into his Brother with two Claws. That saw a quick end to my hope of taking his back objective. -He got a plague brother onto an objective we placed in dangerous terrain Round 1. That bad boy shook off shots for the next three turns. I think he took 8 shots without taking a wound. -The final blow came when his 3 plague walkers reached the Brother I had holding an objective. Triple sixes never made me shake my head so hard.
I wish I had taken pictures, I will try to get them next time. I make a lot of terrain (been into the OTHER game for quite some time) but on this one we played with card stock terrain and it worked perfectly.
Thank you OPG, our household’s gaming just got so much better.
