So theres been a lot of discord discussion about making the army building limitations of competetive rules slightly less elite army leaning and actually workable for different army sizes, so heres my attempt at hopefully a slightly more balanced and scalable version. This will only really be modifications of the Composition and mixed armies. For a second alternative i will also include Merging units and Psychics.
Composition: Players may only bring up to 3 heroes in their army, and no more than 3 copies of the same unit (if players merge two units into one, it counts as one copy of the same unit), if the game size is larger than 2000pts they might bring one additional hero per 1000pts and 1 extra copy of the same unit every 2000pts. Players may configure their army so that they only have a maximum of 7 units in play per 1000pts of game size.
Mixed Armies: Players may bring units from up to two armies in the same force list, but they must select one of them as their primary army. Players may only bring up to 350pts worth of units from their secondary army list per 1000pts of game size, and heroes from either army list may only join other units from their own army list.
Possible balance changes
Now this second part is more to allow certain units to be more viable in play and the psychics part is here becuase im iffy if thats a needed change.
Merging Units: When putting together their armies players may not merge two units made up of single models with (tough 9) or higher, or the transport special rule into one.
Psychics: Only up to 3 psychic models from each army may cast or block spells per game round. You might Cast or block 1 additional spell for every 1000 pts past 2000pts.
