Got three games in today in a mix of situations, though all games were 3 player, so 2k vs 1k+1k. All units are double units unless they are monsters/heroes.
Game 1: Kingdom of angels 2k, Vinci + Havoc Warriors/Lust Disciples.
KoA is a mixed force; 3 20 man great weapon infantry block, each with a commander with the commander bonus, supported by a champion on dragon, 2 wizards, 3 units of 5 crossbowman.
HW is 2 20 man barbarian blocks with great weapons, a gore chariot, and a fast flying demon champion
Vinci is 10 city guards with dual bolts and a captain... with captain, a carro, unit of 10 harlequins with bombs, and some melee drones.
KoA & HW advanced, Vinci centered around a hill. KoA dragon suffered an early pin from the city guard, while the rest of KoA pretty much wiped out the HW only really losing most of one infantry block. Vinci counter charged with the drones, and with the mid ranged units came close to clearing the field by the end of the match.
Lessen learned: Drones are very good, some voiced complaints of 'too good'
Nothing else has its glass cannon of 6 rending attacks each.
Game 2: Kingdom of angels 2k, Vinci + Havoc Warriors/Lust Disciples.
KoA did monster mash, 3 dragons, 3 phoenixes, 2 chariots, 2 wizards, this is more his standard army.
HW ran another group of 20 great weapon barbarians, a gore chariot, and 2 fully kited out chimeras with fast added.
Vinci used the same city guard/captain unit, harlequins with bombs, automa brutes, and an alchemist
KoA charged while HW and Vinci held, got another early pin on one dragon, but try as they might the city cannot kill a dragon in one round. Second round gets gory. Automa brutes preform well holding the line to shield the Vinci units. Chimeras don't have the wounds of dragons but its a close fight. In the third & fourth rounds a phoenix charges the automa brutes both dealing the same wounds to each other, but the brutes losing combat and automa actually doing most of the damage due to lose from the enemies fear. This happens with undead often too and it just seem wrong that they are effected by fear and banner/musician. In the end, while the brutes perish, the Vinci units clear the enemy off the board by the end of the turn.
Lesson learned: Brutes preformed better than expected.
Game 3: Vinci 2k, vs KoA + Havoc Warriors/Lust Disciples.
Vinci brings 3 city guard/captain units, a carro, an alchemist, auto cav (not the heavy variety), 3 Master Assassins all with deadly, one in a group of assassins with poison.
KoA is 2 dragons and 2 phoenixes
HW is the same as game 2
At the start, HW bringing fast flyers and a fourth of Vinci's units in ambush and having no really blockers seemed like it would be rough, but that soon proved not to be the case. On turn one, one dragon was downed, and due to having to close and being low on activations, the barbarians were killed by the auto cav without a counter charge. The assassins deployed right behind the main KoA/HW line hoping to get to pounce on a phoenix with all the deadly attacks and poison. The auto cav got first activation and failed to kill a heavily wounded dragon and were near wiped out in return. A chimera hit the Vinci line and wipe out a guard unit, while the next guard unit took out the unactivated chimera. The gore chariot hit another guard unit but it held. The carro and alchemist ended the remaining chimera and the chariot in retaliation. At this point 3/4 of the Vinci army had decimated the 2k combined force. A pheonix charged the unit of assassins but the assassin did no wounds back (even the master of assassins as the bird rolled a 6 on the takedown armor save). We played out the end of the turn with both remaining master assassins only dealing each a single damage to the phoenix and the other phoenix routing one of the lone master assassins. At this point it was called for Vinci.
Lesson learn, city guards really pick up units. A lot of discussion about the commander/captain type abilities and why they are so low costed over things like shadow stalkers pumpkin master. Also KoA player feels regen is under costed in high qua/def units and over costed on lower qua/def units. Why isn't just a 33-30% points increase? Master Assassin still feels off, not a monster hunter, not an effective hero hunter... needs something. So far all I can see it as is a expensive lone wizard hunter or objective harasser.
