Hi,
I have a question about the rules of combat.
The unit was attacked from the flank / rear. Can the unit counter-charge during its activation?

A unit may only fight back if attacked in it's front. If the unit has not activated and is not wavering you can turn 90° and charge the unit that attacked you in the flank. Because you have not fought back in melee you'll still fight at your full quality while your opponent will strike back only on 6s due to being exhausted. If attacked in the rear, you'll only be able to hold your ground and turn 180° to face them for next time.

Can you always make a 90° turn and attack any unit in range? Do you need to see an enemy unit at the start of your turn (line of sight 90°) to make a charge?

Yes, you can pivot 90° then charge a unit. You must pivot before you charge. You can not move a few inches forward, pivot 90° then charge a unit. When charging a unit you must move in a straight line then shuffle models to maximize contact. As far as I'm aware you don't need line of sight as long as you can draw a straight line to your opponent. So units with Flying could fly over a wall and charge into a unit behind it.
Hope this helps!
