What are people’s opinions on mixing and matching the lists? If one had a small collection of models and wanted to make a bit of a mongrel war and with entries from two different lists.

I've always felt that as long as your opponent is ok with it, then go ahead!

In the competative rules you can pick from up to 2 lists if I recall correctly. But as MrCrow says, if you and your opponent agree you are good to go.
