Hi All,
Got a question about how to the AP(X) is applied. I have some armies to which the AP(X) rule applies and some on which it doesn't apply.
Does the AP(X) rule mean that the AP stated for a weapon is applied to the defense roll of the target? Or does it mean that a modifier is applied to the defense roll of the target on top of the weapons AP? If so, how is "X" determined?
Am confused because I have units in 1 army that have the AP(X) rule, and a AP on their weapons, and 1 army that has weapons with a AP, but no AP(X) rule.
Hope someone can clarify.

You're going to have to post a picture of what you're talking about, AP only does anything if its on a weapon. Buffs to AP are always as AP(+X), such as Banner of Change. Are you asking about like.. Battlescribe outputting "AP(X)" exactly? ignore it, its just a list of what special rules show up on that stat cards, if a unit has a weapon with an AP value it will print AP(X) under special rules.

Thanks for the reply menacing. I was indeed referring to the Battlescribe output. See two examples attached. You probably already answered my question. The AP applies to weapons, the rule is just stated for reference.

As far as I know, when Battlescribe says "Rules: AP(X)" all it means is one or more weapons listed for the model has the AP rule in its stats. AP(X) is a generic shortcut that Battlescibe uses (but unfortunately not always), instead of listing each AP value such as Rules: AP(1), Rules: AP(2), Rules: AP(3), etc. The example of the Cult Ranger (sniper upgrade) shows Battlescribe unfortunately does not list AP in the Rules line for every model that has an AP weapon. This is an error that should be fixed in Battlescribe. The Cult Ranger (sniper upgrade) should read Rules: AP(X), Sniper. Strider. As a reminder, the AP rule states: AP(X): Targets get -X to Defense rolls when blocking hits. So, if the Cult Ranger hits a Battle Brother (Defense 2+) with the Uranium Rifle [AP(4)], then the Battle Brother would have to roll a 6 to save vs. the hit [(2+) + 4 = 6].

Apparently, when Battlescribe says "Rules: AP(X)" all it implies is at least one weapons recorded for the model has the AP rule in its details. AP(X) is a nonexclusive alternate way that Battlescibe utilizes (yet tragically not generally), rather than posting each AP worth like Rules: AP(1), Rules: AP(2), Rules: AP(3), and so on. The case of the Cult Ranger (expert rifleman update) shows Battlescribe tragically doesn't list AP in the Rules line for each model that has an AP weapon. This is a mistake that ought to be fixed in Battlescribe. The Cult Ranger (expert sharpshooter overhaul) ought to understand Rules: AP(X), Sniper. Strider. As an update, the AP rule states: AP(X): Targets get - X to Defense rolls while impeding hits. Thus, assuming the Cult Ranger hits a Battle Brother (Defense 2+) with the Uranium Rifle [AP(4)], then the Battle Brother would need to move a 6 to save versus the hit [(2+) + 4 = 6]. Battlescribe won't fix anything anymore. The people that maintained it stopped working on it, because Battlescribe is to much of a hassle to input the data and is completely unnecessary with the house intern Army Forge.
