Hey all,
I'm thinking that any issues with 2.5 lists, or hoped rules changes, in the community could be discussed here in a single thread. So far I have 2:
1- Plague Warriors (Rift Daemons of Plague) have the option of Halberds for 5pts or Banner of Plague for 15pts, even though they both do the same thing
2- Impact hits still seem deadly, possibly they should be extra attacks rather than automatic hits? A unit of Skeleton Knights (5 models) armed with lances currently causes 10 automatic hits before rolling for their attacks. This seems incredibly brutal.

1- Banner of Plague is completely different from Halberds. The Banner adds Rending to every attack you do, no matter what weapon upgrade you choose. It is only bad if you only pick the Banner or if you pick Halberds, but you can combine it with any other weapon option to get a profit and you only need one Banner in the whole combined unit to have Rending on every attack.
2- Phalanx is the hard counter to Impact. Screen with Phalanx or shoot the Impact units down before they reach you.

Ah cool, thanks for explaining the banner of plague, that had always confused us when we played haha While Phalanx may be the hard counter to charging cav, automatic hits still seemed way overkill when we played. If lances didn't confer impact, but instead raised the unit's AP then that may balance that out a bit (or if as I said previously the impact value was just the number of extra attacks). I think it just felt a little strange in a game where the chance of the dice roll is so prevalent to have anything happening automatically. The best wizard in the game has a chance of failing to cast even the easiest spell, but your run-of-the-mill cavalry are 100% certain to cause automatic impact hits. Just my take

I've just realised that Impact may not be what I had thought
we had always played the Impact rule as X automatic hits, followed by the unit attacking as normal, so to use the example of a unit of 5 vampire knights with lances from the current 2.5 edition list: 5 Impact hits from their special rule 5 Impact hits from their lances' special rule 5 normal attacks with their lances
Does Impact replace the lances' normal attacks? meaning that, when charging, the same unit would make: 5 Impact hits from their special rule 5 Impact hits from their lances
and that's it?

It only occurred to me after watching the latest Battle Knights battle report: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JG7TOYWkzYA&ab_channel=BattleKnightsA unit of cavalry charges and they used the Impact hits from the lances as the units attacks, it actually felt like it made more sense. If I was right before then that's all good haha, cav is so brutal

Sure cavalry is brutal, but as a Chivalrous Kingdoms player, I can assure you it is quite easily countered. Skirmish screens, 2+ defense monsters, well placed difficult terrain, and simply charging or shooting the cavalry before it charges you are all perfectly viable strategies. Not to mention phalanx, the bane of basically my entire army. Especially on dwarves with shield wall. I hate those things.
Speaking of shield wall, I find it slightly odd that the -1 penalty to hit applies to everything, even indirect artillery, and can never be negated, while an ability like furious is negated by phalanx simply because it arises through charging.
