My roommate and I are going to try playing our first wargame soon, and are thinking about using one page rules for the system as their games seem super approachable! We are debating between skirmish and age of fantasy, any tips for picking one? Any tips for making our first game go well?
If it helps any advice you have; We are both huge dnd fans, which should hopefully help. I have a 2k point saurian army someone 3d printed for me, the two goblin warhammer underworlds warbands (probably enough for a skimrish game?) and the aos dominion box (about 1000 points each of eternal wardens and orcs) for minis. I do not have any terrain. My roommate said they would prefer to use the physical minis instead of paper ones (I would like that as well).
Any tips you have for making sure that our first game goes well would be super appreciated!

Terrain really helps the experience. It doesn't need to be anything fancy however. You could for example use stacks of books or whatever you may have laying around. These help provide cover, block line of sight, and force strategic play as you hide behind and maneuver around them.

Did you ever get to play your first game? The question boils down to whether you really want to have sci-fi, guns, and vehicles versus fantasy with magic, loads of melee combat, and monsters.
Talk through the rules before you play a game and in your first few gams, talk through moves and actions together like playing an open handed card game. When finished, talk about what your opponent saw that you didn't and vice versa. Ask what they would have done different. Determine what units worked and what didn't, but understand you will need several to a dozen games to truly test the effectiveness of a unit.
