The biggest obstacle any miniature game has to face is the 300 pound gorilla of one company that dominates the genre. One of the reasons it dominates is almost every game store has regular events for their products. This also creates a lot of casual play as well.
I think OPR should try to get regular scheduled events at game stores. Since there are obviously a lot of miniatures out there already this should not be hard to do. Create a ranking system for areas. For prizes you could give out a coupon codes for free .STL files. For monthly events you win an .STL for a full army. And a few smaller .STL's for the runner ups.
I think this is the time to push this idea. With the costs going up and numbers of miniatures going down in sets. And the constant changing of rules every 6 months now a stable rule set (or at least one where you do not have to buy a $50 book every 2 years) where you can download army updates for free is going to be very appealing.
