I'm relatively new to OPR (with AoF focus). I read the Rules and watched a battle report on yt.

Now i want to create an Army and i noticed that there is no limitation on buying heroes... could i use a playbook with cheap heroes and use their extensive upgrades

by placing them in every unit?

Also, if you can, is there a way to separate joined units? (combined units and heroes in units)

Technically you could run heroes only, but that is neither fun nor effective.
Heroes are mostly just buff carriers for the units they join, so it may be not very advisable to put a hero in every unit.
Combined units and joined heroes can't separate, they start together, they fight together and they die/rout together.
