I'm not a player of the main games these rules are based on, but I do have a bunch of figures for the LotR games. A lot of goblin and elf figures could be represented by the army lists you've provided.
Is there any balancing of these forces by list restrictions? In other words, have I gotten around intended balance issues by putting trolls and some orcs from your orc list into a goblin list? My Middle Earth orcs are mostly Moria Goblins, with some Uruk-hai (the scouts), and trolls. I'd just mix and match, but sometimes lists are balanced by what can and can't go into an army list.
Thanks. We'll see. One of my sons mentioned he might be interested in a simple fantasy game. We'd played Lord of the Rings before, and I thought it was fun, but he hasn't been asking for more until the casual mention the other day. This looks simple enough to be a possibility.
I particularly like that there are not so many special rules defined for units. That's what I've always hated about GW games. Most of your are standard special rules that you can apply across the board as needed. That's great. I'd be happy to see all extra rules applied that way. Of course, then I'd also want a unit-builder system to tweak or design your own, and then the complexity and work come back in. So never mind on that for now.
