Is "unit" defined? Under "Weapons", i says that "Units without a melee weapon always have 1 attack in melee." Is that one attack per figure? Or the whole unit? It bothers me to call cavalry "infantry". I'm not a fan of limiting the number of rounds. In practice, do games resolve by 4 rounds? I saw on other parts of the forum that there was some discussion about shooting in Advance. With bows, it does seem surprising, without any penalty. But I do value simplicity. thanks andy

Each model has 1 attack in melee, not just 1 attack for the whole unit. I think I'll have to change the wording to clarify that.
As for the round limit, after about 4 rounds the game is mostly decided, so there's little point in continuing. It also gives armies that aren't tailored to their opponents a better chance at being able to win by objectives instead of being wiped out by round 5-6.
Additionally I wanted to make sure that games are short and furious, and that you can be satisfied by the end of round 4 and then go on to play the next game. Generally I think that OPR games are better suited for multiple shorter games than one super long game.

Don't think so, but I take it as any instance of an entry from the Army List. I saw on other parts of the forum that there was some discussion about shooting in Advance. With bows, it does seem surprising, without any penalty. But I do value simplicity. Advance does say 'May shoot after moving.' and I suspect that any archer that has probably grownup using a bow could stop and be ready to fire very quickly. Also, I see activations as an 'opportunity to do something' rather than each activation is 30 seconds. So the lack of time scale allows a little give. Obviously, bolt throwers and the like would be a stretch too far, but they are Artillery and covered by that rule: '...and may only fire when using Hold actions.' :-)

What does "melee results" mean in the rules for musician and battle standard?

What does "melee results" mean in the rules for musician and battle standard? andy So my take: Unit A charges into Unit B. Unit A scores 3 wounds - its melee result is 3 Unit B scores 2 wounds - its melee result is 2 Normally Unit A wins as 3>2 However, If Unit B has a Musician, melee result is now 3 giving a draw. If Unit B has a Battle Standard as well then the result is now 4 giving a win. If both sides have the upgrade, they negate each other, but not every unit can take these upgrades, or may not have them all.

Thanks.
Adding Sergeant doesn't add another figure, but adds the rule that lets you add an attack to a figure, right?
If you add a hero to a unit, the hero's armor only comes into play when he is the only one left. Is that right? The defender chooses which figure is removed, though normal figures have to be removed before wounds from Tough. So the hero would be left, assuming the unit doesn't Rout first.
Does a hero Rout with the unit to which he his attached?
Can a Hero be deployed separately? I'm not sure if the "can be" sentence about Heroes is an addition to an assumed individual deployment, or is how they are deployed. I think there is a choice.
Does the wolf on a goblin wolf-rider add anything to the fight, or just make the goblin Fast?
thanks andy

Thanks. Adding Sergeant doesn't add another figure, but adds the rule that lets you add an attack to a figure, right? Correct. So a 10 strong unit with 10 attacks is still 10 strong, but now gets 11 attacks. If you add a hero to a unit, the hero's armor only comes into play when he is the only one left. Is that right? The defender chooses which figure is removed, though normal figures have to be removed before wounds from Tough. So the hero would be left, assuming the unit doesn't Rout first. Yes. The majority rule wins when dealing with Heroes joined to units. So the hero may not bring Armour/Morale roles, but he can bring attacks and special rules to the unit. Yes, the defender picks casualties and 'normal' troops go before 'Tough' ones. Does a hero Rout with the unit to which he his attached? No idea officially. One for Anon. I've played it that they Rout with the unit. Can a Hero be deployed separately? I'm not sure if the "can be" sentence about Heroes is an addition to an assumed individual deployment, or is how they are deployed. I think there is a choice. For me Separately or Joined. Does the wolf on a goblin wolf-rider add anything to the fight, or just make the goblin Fast? thanks andy Well, using other examples from the Lists, I would saw that Claws(A1) attack is missing as well. One for Anon.

Everything that macdrack said with two notes:
- The hero's armor also comes into play when there's anything that targets the hero specifically such as some spells, the sniper rule, etc. - The wolves on the Wolf Riders unit only give them Fast and are not supposed to give them Claws(A1), that's a privilege that only heroes have.

Thanks.
I may give my wolf riders (Moria goblins glued to wolves) Spears, to give them a bit more impact, even though they have swords, but it isn't exact.
I feel an urge to tweak in other places (my high elf swords feel over-represented by sword masters, and I'm not sure some of these profiles have enough defense for armor and shields), but if I don't see a way to do with standard options, I'll wait until I've tried.
thanks andy

Hi, in Chivalrous Kingdoms armylist there are some units with unusual size of 6(pilgrims, knights cavalry). Is it OK? In rules there are only groups of 5 or 10 models mentioned.

The unit sizes are correct. I guess you are referring to AoF:Regiments, so check out the General Principles section:

Hiya! I just discovered this site from an amazing 1d4chan article and have already picked up a few rules for both this and Grimdark.
So I have a question, what is the special rules for sergeants, musicians, and battle standards? I looked in three lists and they don't actually say what they do...

The rules for common rules like that are in the main rulebook. (That's a lot of rules...) But, basically: Sergeant: A nominated figure is now a 'Sergeant' and gains an extra attack +1A Musician and Battle standard are similar, but add +1 to Melee results.
Cheers.

Check the main rules page, under common upgrades.

Oh, oh dear... I seemed to have completely missed that my first look through. When I first looked at that, I just read Grimdark first and I guess that affected my skimming. Sorry.
