How important are the limits in "Playing Bigger Games"? Are there specific misuses that this section prevents? Maybe having heroes not joined with units increases number of units, so you can wait out the other side?
We are soon going to do a 1000 point fantasy game. I am not going to want many more points than that, but I do have some cavalry to add in, so maybe we'll make it to 1200 or even 1500 at some point.
But I am not interested in the limits on Heroes and Monsters, etc. The elves (who are mostly high elves and a few wood elves) have a Captain (elf prince), Mage, and Unicorn (wood elf druid on unicorn). That's 3 heroes, with 1-2 allowed. Is that likely to be a balance issue? I currently think the elves are going to be creamed. They've gotten used to fighting goblins, but I've painted my orcs now. I use mostly GW LotR figures, supplemented by various things. The orcs are more powerful than they should be since these aren't great green brutes, but I'm going with the stats we have. And I would like to have a few more of my individual figures on the field without just counting them as sergeants.
If these limits aren't necessary, we could just skip that part of the rules.

Skip the limits if you want, it's not going to break the game.

You know I'm quite happy to adapt rules to suit myself. I was just wondering whether these limits are needed for some cases, or could we just drop them? andy

Did you follow the hero / monster limits?

We didn't have any heroes in either of these armies (although we plan to in the future).
I'm not sure I was aware of any hero / monster limits. Which document / ruleset deals with those limits?

The back of the main rules has a section called Playing Bigger Games. Its only rule effect is to provide limits, and I don't think it is really necessary.
