Here is a miscellaneous pile of thoughts and questions.
1) I have asked the morale question before, but it feels to me that the morale rules are not very clear.
a) Can you rout if you go below half because of shooting and fail the morale test? Or is that only for melee?
b) If you go under 50% and take a morale test, and then lose another model (not in melee), do you have to take another test? For example, if a unit of 10 goes to 4 they take a test. If they later go to 3, do they take another test?
c) If a unit goes under 50% but wins the melee, they don't take a test. Do they take a test the next time they take losses from non-melee or when not winning a melee?
If the answer to b is that you don't have to test again for losing models, but only when you cross 50%, then the case in c may be hard to remember.
2) I wanted to be able to have two units act together. For example, I had two spear units with 10 models each that wanted to attack an orc unit with 20 models. But two consecutive melees with separate units isn't the same at all as one unit involving all, because the unit involved in both melees gets to make all (minus any dead ones) attacks twice. I see there is a trade-off between flexibility and power. And I see some potential complications from having more than 2 units in a melee. I'm not worried about splitting attacks, but there might be some weird interactions between special abilities. I haven't thought of any, but I could imagine.
3) Maybe more general than that, I'd like some simple choices to add strategy. I was thinking about delaying a unit's activation, or letting a couple act with a leader, etc. It can get into some of the complexities above. I liked the spell that let a unit move without activating. That felt like giving an option.
I think I had more questions, but can't remember now.
